Hi!
As an Early Childhood Educator with my special needs certificate in addition to my certified education certificate, I am committed to continuing my learning journey to the best of my ability. I have a very busy life as a full-time student, mom of three, married with a mortgage, and active in our church. I’m always trying new strategies on balancing life out between family and school but with the support of my family, it makes it seem doable.
A little bit about myself. I grew up near Harrison Hot Springs and spent a lot of my childhood at the hockey area for my brother’s extracurriculars. Throughout high school, I always envisioned myself being a teacher, but as I entered university, I realized I had a passion for learning and attending school and decided to try out many different courses such as criminology, dental assistant, early childhood education, education assistant, and now Bachelor of Education…eleven years after first enrolling in university.
When I got married, we moved away to Nanaimo, which was my first taste away from home. Throughout the years, especially after moving to 100 Mile House, I had to find ways to keep busy in the small towns where there wasn’t much offered other than outdoor activities such as ice fishing, fishing, and hiking. At this point, hiking became a big part of my life, my husband and I would always try to find a hike we could embark on, sometimes ones that were over night, other ones were quick.
I also found a passion for cooking and baking. During one of my maternity leaves with my daughter, I bought a KitchenAid mixer, which I was extremely excited about. With this, I learned new recipes, tried new things, experimented with different foods, and gained a lot of confidence in the kitchen. I connect this to my love of learning, how I push myself out of my comfort zones to learn new skills and new information and take it all in, even through trial and error.
We moved to Kamloops in 2022, and this brought excitement about my education future. I was excited to embark on this adventure and felt as if it was a meant-to-be opportunity. Even though trying to balance life as a family of 5 and a full-time student brings all sorts of challenges, I feel proud of myself and am excited about what the future holds. But with this excitement of the journey, I also quickly became aware of how necessary it is to maintain your hobbies. I realized I needed to find time to bake, to experiment with new recipes, and to push myself out for daily hikes, walks, or some sort of body movement.
