Lead Educator in a Daycare

This experience of being a lead educator within a daycare gave me a wide range of experiences including having meaningful and important discussions with parents, supporting children’s emotional, social, and mental well-being, and planning a curriculum that allowed flexibility and adjustment to best meet the needs of children.

Having meaningful discussions with parents was the greatest takeaway. I believe parents often know their child best and that the child’s experience may differ from the parent’s experience at home, with this came collaboration in creating and planning ways to best support the child and the parents through tough times.

Travelling to Mexico with our three daughters

We took our daughters to Mexico for the first time in December 2024. This was a great learning experience for myself and my daughters as they indulged in the Mexican culture through language, dance, art, food, and different experiences.

I related this experience to my past experience as an educator, and through my future teaching practice of a variety of cultures I’ll be able to experience. Within our teaching journey, there are many different cultures one will be able to experience, and it depends on where we end up. The experience we gain in Kamloops will be different than what we gain in Richmond or the Lower Mainland. Through the exposures of different cultures brings in different mindsets, thoughts, and opinions that help create an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Out of School Program

I lead an out-of-school program in the summer of 2024. This experience gave me new insights into the large variety of curriculum and topics that will be covered into my teaching journey in addition to the effort teachers put in to guide and teach students.

As a teacher candidate and previous out-of-school program educator, I believe I had underestimated the effort and time that teachers put into creating meaningful curricula to meet the BC curriculum standards, as well as the needs of the students. This experience proved to be valuable and meaningful for me as I pursue my career.
