Truth and Reconciliation Calls for Action

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls for Actions advocates for acknowledgment of the government’s underspending in Indigenous-based schools, creating age-appropriate curriculum for younger students on the truth about residential schools, and fair recognition of Indigenous education spending.

The Truth and Reconciliation Calls for Action is a powerful document that brings awareness to an otherwise sought-after topic. For me, this brings awareness in areas that I didn’t otherwise think of, and I believe it’s because it did not directly affect me. But when listening to the stories and seeing the data, you start to visualize the negative affects that the Indigenous communities have had to endure, and it’s important for BC educators to be aware of the whole story that is taking place, as a way to reflect throughout their practice.
